Why so many PhDs are on food stamps
Today’s link comes courtesy of a friend, who pointed me to this NPR article, discussing a recent Chronicle of Higher Education study that revealed that the number of PhD and Master’s degree holders on food stamps or some other sort of living assistance has tripled in three years. It’s a short piece, well worth a quick read.
If you have the time, though, the comments are an even better read. Somewhat atypically for ANY news article posted on the internet, those comments are chock-full of insightful thoughts, including quite a few anecdotes from current or former academics who have suffered the diminishing value of higher education first-hand.
